CASE STUDY

The context

Bab Marrakesh is a brand importing authentic Moroccan products (grocery, tableware, tagines, cosmetics) to the United Arab Emirates. The customer base lives in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, looks for quality from a specific terroir, and orders both from desktop in the evening and from smartphone in the morning. The project covered two surfaces: the e-commerce site (our main scope) and the Flutter mobile app, where we contributed to deployment and to the WooCommerce backoffice integration.

The challenge

Three requirements intersected. First, managing a catalog with high variant counts (one tagine ships in 6 sizes, 3 finishes, 2 origins), so WooCommerce had to be configured with custom attributes and a maintainable variants system. Second, plugging in payment gateways suited to the UAE market (local cards, Apple Pay, cash on delivery for some zones) without breaking the checkout flow. Third, keeping consistency with the Flutter mobile app that consumes the same WooCommerce REST API, which meant each product addition had to be validated on the admin side to render correctly on both surfaces.

Our approach

WordPress + WooCommerce, deeply customised: a custom theme built around the brief rather than a generic marketplace template, WooCommerce plugins kept to the strict minimum (variations, UAE payment gateways, Yoast SEO). Search optimised via a MySQL full-text index rather than a third-party plugin, faster on a catalog this size. On the SEO side, category pages were designed to rank on intentional queries ("buy argan Dubai", "tagine delivery Abu Dhabi"), with schema.org Product and a segmented sitemap.

The outcome

The store is live, the checkout flow is optimised for the UAE market (including local payment gateways), and coordination with the Flutter mobile app is in place. Product and category pages are indexed with their schema.org markup, making them eligible for Google rich results. The client manages the catalog autonomously through the WooCommerce backoffice, with no recurring update requests from our side.
