CASE STUDY

The context

Rouh Dounia is a beauty and wellness brand inspired by Moroccan traditions: argan oil, black soap, ghassoul clay, natural masks, hammam products. The typical customer lives in Europe or North America, knows Moroccan skincare rituals from family or travel, and looks for authentic products she can't find in mass retail. The project covered both the e-commerce platform and the branding work (visual identity, product storytelling, photography palette) that had to carry the idea of modern authenticity without slipping into folklore.

The challenge

The usual trap for culture-inspired brands: sinking into the decorative (zellige patterns everywhere, saturated palette, clumsy Arabic-style typefaces). What we needed instead was a minimal design system where Moroccan identity came through product photography, the vocabulary in descriptions, and a palette drawn from natural pigments (earth, ochre, hammam green). Technically, WooCommerce had to handle a cosmetics catalog with its constraints (size variants, expiry dates, shipping restrictions for some liquids), and provide product filters a non-expert customer can understand.

Our approach

WordPress + WooCommerce, fully custom theme (no off-the-shelf beauty template). The design system runs on cream and earth tones, product photography on neutral backgrounds, and sober typography. Multi-level storytelling: product pages that explain ingredient origin, ritual pages that group products by use case, an "our story" page about the founder. Product filters built as a custom layer on top of WooCommerce, optimised for business attributes (skin type, ritual, range). Local SEO on ingredient queries ("organic argan oil", "authentic ghassoul rhassoul").

The outcome

The store is live with a smooth checkout flow and branding consistent from logo to payment page. Ritual category pages (hammam, hair care, facial care) serve as both SEO surfaces and editorial windows, reducing the friction between discovery and purchase. Cart abandonment is in line with DTC beauty benchmarks, and the client manages her catalog and promotions without recurring technical support.
